Customers are also increasingly leaving reviews and feedback via their cell phones.<\/p>\n<p>In the U.S., around\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mycustomer.com\/experience\/voice-of-the-customer\/how-to-conduct-successful-customer-surveys-over-mobile\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">3 in 10 surveys<\/a>\u00a0are conducted on a mobile device \u2013 which means that we can take a survey (and be solicited to take one) pretty much anywhere and anytime.<\/p>\n<p>This is causing people to become overwhelmed by a phenomenon known as \u201csurvey fatigue\u201d. In 2012,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.people-press.org\/2012\/05\/15\/assessing-the-representativeness-of-public-opinion-surveys\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pew Research<\/a>\u00a0reported that the response rate of their typical telephone surveys had dropped to 9% versus 36% in 1997.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10800\" src=\"https:\/\/proweb.p.blends.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/unnamed.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"512\" height=\"417\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There are two main types of survey fatigue.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #421f3c; font-size: 2.5rem;\">What is survey fatigue?\u200b<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Survey fatigue can happen in two ways: survey request fatigue and survey taking fatigue.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bolder;\">Survey request fatigue<\/span>\u00a0is when people have been asked for their feedback so many times that they don\u2019t want to respond. Survey request fatigue causes people to completely ignore the request for feedback and reduces survey return rates.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bolder;\">Survey taking fatigue<\/span>\u00a0is when someone\u2019s in the middle of a survey and gets tired of the questions. This can affect the quality of their response because they may skip questions or spend minimal time answering questions. It can even cause them to abandon the survey completely.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #421f3c; font-size: 2.5rem;\">How do I avoid survey fatigue?\u200b<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Since good customer service depends on obtaining and reviewing feedback, we don\u2019t recommend banning surveys. Instead, focus on mitigating the effect of survey fatigue.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s a short and sweet overview that addresses both types of survey fatigue:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Don\u2019t over-survey your audience<\/li>\n<li>Communicate the value of each survey<\/li>\n<li>Keep it\u00a0<i>short<\/i>\u00a0and simple<\/li>\n<li>Take the survey yourself<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Surveys shouldn\u2019t be about having as many questions as you can get away with. They should be brief but meaningful. It should be clear what their purpose is and who the survey is coming from. Avoid automated popups, autoresponder emails, and the urge to ask for feedback after every single customer reaction. All of these things contribute to survey fatigue and poor quality results from overwhelmed customers.\u00a0Here\u2019s a breakdown of the strategies we listed above.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #421f3c; font-size: 2.5rem;\">Four essential strategies to avoid survey fatigue\u200b<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #421f3c; font-size: 28px;\">1. Don\u2019t over survey your audience\u200b<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>When survey respondents become overwhelmed with questions or the number of surveys they are presented with,\u00a0resulting in lower response rates for everyone.\u00a0Research has shown that 80% of the study respondents abandoned a survey halfway through and that 72% indicated surveys interfere with their online shopping experience. The best way to prevent a high\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/help.pointerpro.com\/en\/support\/solutions\/articles\/35000042445-survey-completion-rate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">abandonment rate<\/a>\u00a0is to reduce the number of surveys you request from your customers and keep your surveys as brief as possible. But what does that mean, exactly?
